should i do this

ok soo i have this stock computer http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId... the only thing i added was a 550W psu, zotac GTX 760AMP and a ssd and two HDD. so the Mobo i have right now its crap and with the cpu which is a amd phenom ii x4 960t, it gives my 760 a bottleneck. i get 60 ish frams on low, on BF4. so i got $170 and plan to spend it. my idea is to take the Mobo and cpu and replace it with this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQO9L1Q/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_n... Mobo and this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009O7YORK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_n... cpu. soo tell me is worth it, will i really get more fps and not Bottleneck me, also if you have a better idea on what i should do let me know but keep in mind no higher then $170, Thanks!

this is really not a good cpu choice for gaming, something like this would be much better and fit your budget:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($104.88 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($66.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $171.87

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |

If you really want to see a difference, you need to do something like this:

[PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($192.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($51.92 @ Amazon)
Total: $244.91
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-01-23 22:58 EST-0500

The upgrade to a 6300 is really not an upgrade.

Yeah if the OP is willing to spend enough money the i5 is a no brainer.

The phenom has the same IPC as a 6300 so it would be a bad upgrade indeed.

it's worth spending a little more for the core i5 if possible OP, this will take you much further in the future games..

Most mATX AM3+ boards have trouble with FX6 and FX8, although I dont know about that particular one. I'd get an 860K (http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Black-3700Mhz-AD860KXBJABOX/dp/B00MU00IOQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1422071796&sr=1-1&keywords=860k) and an MSi A78M-E35 (http://www.amazon.com/MSI-A78M-E35-Bolton-Micro-Motherboard/dp/B00HGLX8J6/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1422071921&sr=1-7&keywords=a78+motherboard). You could get an even cheaper board if you want. It wont bottleneck your GPU in most games, performs similar to an i3 but is cheaper.

Or, as nanosuits and zappian said, an i3:

CPU: Intel Core i3-4330 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($51.92 @ Amazon)
Total: $186.91

What about an i3 4150 and an Asus H81-Plus instead. The reason I chose this is because AM3 is practically dead and there is no upgrade path+games benefit from fewer faster cores opposed to more slower cores. In the end it's your choice but that it what I would do.

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

my i3 kit is better because the CPU has the same clockspeed so i think it performs the same but the motherboard i picked is vastly superior and offers a lot more connectivity and features.

i3-4150 is an haswell refresh cpu many H81 boards won't support it out of the box...H97 boards recommended to ensure compatibility.

I just grabbed the cheapest compatible set.  The i3 had the highest clock in his price range.

yes but as i said the i3-4150 is an haswell refresh sku and it should be paired with a H97 chipset motherboard to make sure it works out of the box and won,t require a bios update which require a non haswell refresh CPU to perform...
