Best possible gaming/editing performance for $2,000

piplupgao

What would be best possible gaming performance for $2,000. This should be just the hardware no case or peripherals. I would like to have 780 sli and 4770k or single 780 and 3930k <-----------prefer this

Its okay if I go $100-$200 higher but I would prefer not to

You could always wait for adobe and sony to patch in OpenCL support for AMD cards.

AMD cards are destroying nvidia in terms of price to performance at the moment.

oh and you get free games.

780 sli and a 4770k i do not think that will work and if it does (not likely) you will have to cheap out on everything.

You will not be able to fit 780 SLI and a 4770k into a $2000 budget. I would say follow this guide:

good post!

CPU: INTEL Core i7-4960X MB: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition RAM:  32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133MHz GPU: 2 x Galaxy GTX690 HDD: 128GB Samsung 840Pro SSD, Asus RAIDR 240GB PCI-SSD, 1TB WD Black PSU: BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 10 1000W Case: Corsair Obsidian 900D

I would actually suggest waiting for Ivy Bridge E to drop. Should be fairly soon.

You will not be able to fit 780 SLI and a 4770k into a $2000 budget. I would say follow this guide:

Sure you can, he did say no peripherals and case are not included in the price.  All he wants is the Drives, Mobo, Proc, GPU, PSU, and Memory.  Hell, I could include the Case and Monitor and still build you a kickass design/development computer.  I put all my contractors on a 1500USD build and it's more than enough for them to do what they need.

Just posting it again in case you missed it.

You could fit 8GB more RAM if you were fine with $2100-$2150.

You could always build a rig with AMD cards and then wait for adobe and sony to patch in OpenCL support.

Right now the 780 does not justify it's price when I can get TWO 7970's for less than the price of one 780.

EDIT: turns out that AMD cards are supported with vegas pro already and that adobe recently patched in OpenCL support into Adobe Premiere Pro.

I'll try and get a AMD GPU build going for you.

It's all about quality bro.

The "quality" of the FPS (in reference to frame latency specifically) is simply lower on AMD cards. AMD almost always wins price-performance and I can't help but believe, from what I've seen, that that is due to them compromising quality in the process.

Edit: While I admit that he will be editing a lot, gaming matters too. Best of both worlds with $2000 isn't hard.

Mvitkun's build has an unnecessary amount of RAM (since you can upgrade if you really need more), and a PSU that can't sustain SLI (which you could possibly upgrade to later, if you wanted).

Also, a cpu cooler? ... I don't think a 3930k would need one unless you overclocked it, and I wouldn't expect you to ever *need* to overclock one.

Plus the case. Meh.

If you think he does not need an overclocked processor, why not a 3820?

Plus none of the 2011 chips come with a cooler so he would need to buy or acquire one anyway.
