So I have my parts picked out (besides my GPU of course).

  • Processor - Intel Core i5-4960k 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (Planning on adding closed loop water cooler later)
  • Mother Board - MSI Z97-Gaming 7 ATX LGA1150
  • Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Red Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-1600MHz
  • Storage - Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB (planning on adding a 1TB HDD later)
  • I don't think case or power supply matter in this case, but if so, heres the PCPartPicker link: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/bbyrd10/saved/Fmt48d

Here is what I want to be able to do, I want to be able to run modern titles at a playable frame rate (50+), and I want to be able to run them on very high or max settings at 1080p, but maybe 1440p.

What do I need and what would be overkill?

PS: I don't care about loud fans.

PPS: Any comments on my part choice so far would be appreciated.

         Thanks. :)

R9 280X/285 if you want 1080p, but if you're thinking of going 1440p in the future I would go for a GTX 970.

It depends on budget, which people always forget to mention. However, 970 is definitely the best bang/buck card

I don't know about how it compares price-performance vs AMD, but I know the 970 will do great for 1080p and will still do fairly well at 1440p if you are okay with framerate dips below 60(I am not) or you are willing to lower your settings(that's what I do)

MEGHAN TRAINOR approves of 980
