AMD or Intel?

Go to solution Solved by extremescouter,

I would definitely go for the 4770k, and the gd65 is a great gaming motherboard.

Right, I have the opportunity to get a Crosshair V formula-z and an FX 8350 for £250, or an Intel i7 4770k and a GD65 Gaming for £330. I really like the Crosshair motherboard. I know an FX-8350 is fine for gaming now...what I'm worried about is performance in 1 or 2 years time. I don't plan on upgrading my cpu for a while...and I'm not sure whether the board having PCIe 2.0 will be much of an issue.

The 4770k is a faster processor, but the GD65 Gaming is a lower-end motherboard than the Crosshair.

Am I better off getting the 4770k and GD65 for £330, or getting the FX-8350 and Crosshair V Formula-Z and putting more money into other area's of my build (monitor, GPU, mechanical keyboard.) I'm happy with the performance both will offer now.

I was told with the next gen consoles being 8 core, pc games may become more optimized for 4+ cores and will take advantage of the FX-8350's 8 cores more.

I would go intel on any gaming build.

When it comes to the cores on the consoles, you have to remember they are not as highly clocked as a PC and they never will.

8 cores isn't really necessary unless you're rendering videos and editing videos and pictures^^

Intel definitely,4770k will last you a while, and the FX 8350 isn't really 8 cores, every 2 cores are actually 1 1/2 cores

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

A GD65 Gaming isn't really considered a lower-end motherboard. And don't forget that the 4770k is hyper-threaded. In 1 to 2 years, you're still going to have great performance.

AMD for only gaming and intel for gaming and editing at the same time. There is a high chance that AMD will be a lot better for gaming soon haswell.

Okay, thanks. Really want a red themed build, and the GD65 Gaming seems to have just as good if not better features than the slightly higher priced Asus Maximus VI Hero.
