Regarding Motherboard RAM slots

Go to solution Solved by WinNut,

The grey slots are the priority slots and RAM is required there for a boot.

So I just have a quick question. My motherboard has 8 slots for RAM, 4 dark gray, 4 black.

The RAM I have is black, so I wanted to put it in the Black colored RAM slots. However, when I did so the computer would not boot. Or rather, It would, but I would get no video signal. When I switched the RAM to the dark gray colored slots, the computer will boot and display video signal fine.

I've talked to two other friends of mine who also build desktop rigs, and they've had similar experiences, as well as their own circles of friends. So it's something I should have known about, I suppose.

But I didn't. And I certainly don't understand it now. Can anyone explain to me why the Motherboard would be so picky?
