I am looking to do Computing for university (am in final months of GCSE) and wanted to know how hard A-levels are. The typical entry requirements are 3 a-levels (one in maths and physics) and typically A for all of them and an A for GCSE Maths (got a solid A for this at the end of Year 10).

How hard are A-levels and how do i cope with them, any tips?

And if you have done Maths or Science(s) for A-level, any specific feedback on these specific subjects is appreciated.

I found the work decent. Though I didn't do science or maths, I did media, film and law.

And coping? The hell is that?

What do they know of England, who only England know?

I didn't do A-Levels but from what my friends have said its a nightmare(probably an exageration) but if you think you can handle lots of work and writing then you can give it a go and if you don't like it you can leave and go to college.

I know what it is, the point I was trying to make is that I didn't/couldn't.

It is a big step up from GCSEs, and it will be harder than you expect (or at least, it was for me), but you're only doing the subjects you like (no English!) so the work isn't too bad. There is a lot of work though, so be prepared for a shock (especially after 3 months of no school) and when the teachers say that you will be doing work over the holidays, they do mean it. Though everyone at my school still leaves it to the last few day.

It's a LOT harder than GCSE, still pretty doable though.

I'm currently doing AS Level: Maths with mechanics, Physics, Chemistry and Music Tech

How is maths and physics? and is taking further maths at A-level on top of regular A-level maths worth it?

I'm doing further maths, physics and chemistry, and the further maths workload is pretty high, but as long as you're good at maths, it's still pretty manageable. You don't need maths for physics, but it does help (unit 2 physics is pretty similar to M1, so you get two lessons on each thing).

I wouldn't want to do anything other than what I am doing, but when I tell people my options the reactions are a mixture of "That's decent" and "That's horrible".

If you enjoy and are good at maths, you'll be fine with further maths.

I'm doing a Masters in Computer Science, entry reqs AAA.

I studied Maths, Physics, Computing, Chemistry(To ASLevel).

A-Levels, aren't a cake walk. I did a total of like 5 mins work for my GCSE and was fine. Hell I did pretty good ( A*/7A/3B/C (french -.-))

You will actually need to work. Physics was pretty damn hard at that level, Maths slightly less so.

I was doing work all my free hours at Sixth form and it was still tough. You have a lot more work and its a damn bit harder.

I got into Uni, but I'd say that Alevels where tough.

You need to work and you need to make sure that you do what the teachers are telling you.

Maths is doable, its just Maths so do enough past papers and work and its all the same.

Computing wasn't too bad.

Physics was tough. "You'll get by on natural talent" is a bunch of crap. I have mates doing masters in Particle Physics and they did just as much work as I did.

All that said, if you do the work and put the hours in should be fine. Just dont expect to do nothing like GCSEs and be all good.

I just failed my maths additional mock (like most people in my year) and it was hard as hell

well i wouldn't recommend what i did tbh. i just didn't really know what to do. you can get an apprenticeship where they pay for you to go to uni after you have done a level which i wanted, but i couldn't stick it out long enough :( . getting paid to go to uni would have been epic!

I did the GCSE maths a year early then did the OCR additional maths FSMQ last year which makes the AS maths really quite easy, and the mechanics is quite logical so is not to bad either. Physics is hard. A lot of it is interesting though but I find it requires a lot of thought and concentration, not something you can coast through.

Good luck!
