Hey guys

I've a computer from 2008 or 2009 I can't really remember exact year but something in those years. Lately it's been dragging a lot like I try to open google chrome I get (unresponding) or how it's called in English OS anyway it doesn't respond. This can happen in many other programs or just opening a folder which is really annoying. So I was lately thinking if I want to build up a new PC where should I start?

Currently I'm running ASUS P5K motherboard, GTX 260, 4gb kingston ram (something), Intel Q6600 2.40ghz and 3 HDDS where my OS installed is the oldest don't know what brand it is but I've WD 1TB black and 3TB green HDDS for stroge.

I was thinking I'd start building it on my old case which is Antect Sonata 3 since the heat is little problem I suppose with CPU stock cooler I was thinking to try out maybe first buy new cooler for the CPU would that make any chance to slowness or unresponding etc crap? I was planning to buy Noctua NH-D15 but I'm not sure will it fit even inside my case? probably not I assume? So next I though could I possibly buy SSD and clone the current OS HDD over SSD to get better responsive and faster OS?

So what I should do? buy new motherboard, CPU, RAM and SSD at least for starters? I'm not really playing any demanding new games so..I don't really need that kind of monster PC straight off the bat..I could later buy better GPU.

I'd definitely do something about that RAM and CPU then. I'd say a 2/4-core with 3.2-3.5GHz should do fine. I suggest about 8GB-16GB of RAM, make sure the clock speeds are relatively decent though. Of course, you may need to upgrade that motherboard for whichever CPU you decide you want.

For better performance when running Windows applications and the such a better CPU (like Pentium anniversary), RAM, PSU and Motherboard would be where I would start and then add an SSD and GPU later and then case

Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.2Ghz | Evga GTX 780 Ti SC ACX with backplate | MSI Gaming 9 AC | 8GB (2x4) Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 2400 MHz | Corsair H105 128GB Crucial MX100 | Toshiba 2TB | Evga 750G2 | Corsair Obsidian 750d | Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 PWM (3x140mm & 3x120mm)

I recently bought new PSU 620W so that shouldn't be problem..so why new case?

new hardware works better with good airflow, if you dont have a case with good airflow you might aswell use a cardboard box, also the addition of usb3 is a worth while thing to have on the front

Just decide on a budget and make a new build. If you already have a case and some other things, that's better for you as you have to buy less new components.

yeah i would keep the HD and get a new case. depending on how much space you have will basically set what case to buy. I went for a switch 810 and it's massive with tonnes of air flow but would likely be over kill for what you have got planned.

What I've to upgrade for sure is motherboard since P5K is so damn old that not any of the newer CPU's not work on it.

I assume you mean desk space and such..well pretty much I can get any case I want. So Now I'm thinking I at least get new case, new CPU, GPU, Motherboard and ram. I think the old PSU is just fine it's only probably 2 years old.

Antec P280

Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 2, LGA1150, Intel Z97, DDR3, ATX

Kingston 4GB HyperX Fury, DDR3 1333MHz, CL9, 1.5V, white x 4

Just something I quickly did pull together I don't really give a damn about color scheme or such..but I'm always bad with CPU's..I want something that isn't too weak but still not the best I want to able to multi-task. So I assume i5 or i7? GPU I don't know yet like I said I rarely play anything super demanding.

Budget?

Also you might as well get an SSD or at least a new HDD, because if you don't, your PC is gonna be super super slow.

yea like I said I'd want to clone my current HDD over SSD so it should run faster..also I think 1000€ would be the budjet.  I definitely want Intel CPU

A-Data 256GB XPG SX900 SSD, 2,5", SATA III

I need at least 256gb if I want to clone my OS from HDD to SSD.

why would. 16gb of ram be needed if they aren't running anything demanding or modern?

Multi-tasking ^^

For performance issues, have you tried doing a clean reinstall of your OS?

A SSD will definitely make the computer feel more responsive. Not sure based on your vague description of your needs, whether you really need/require a new build.

No, I haven't tried that...I can't even remember when I last time did that to my windows 7 ultimate..

Wasn't the case that the Mhz doesn't matter really?

it really doesn't (it only really matters with an APU). However, there's also no downside to faster ram, so you should get whatever's cheaper/looks better.

I you really just want a new build then go ahead, but some of your problems might be fixed by this.

You do that level of multitasking that 16gb would be necessary?

I think for 1000 euros this would do great:

CPU: I7-4790k

MPU: Asrock Z97 Extreme6

RAM: 2x8gb of memory is more than enough

SSD: Get a samsung drive something like an 850 evo or pro would be perfect.

GPU: Get the 970 that gpu is just unbeatable for price to performance ratio..

Get any case you like

and you should be good to go.

Z97 Extreme6, LGA1150,Intel Z97, DDR3, ATX

250GB 850 EVO SSD -levy, 2.5", SATA III, 540/520 MB/

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 ACX 2.0, 4GB GDDR5, 2xDVI/HDMI/DP, PCI-E 3.0

8GB HyperX Fury, DDR3 1866MHz, CL10, 1.5V x 2

Antec P280 case

I could save on GPU and get something cheaper first then later get something better. But total is 1373.90€ which is still fine.

Then you don't even need the 970 but if you get it you won't need to upgrade for a long while

Just get an r9 280 and get an higher capacity ssd

When I play games specially some multiplayer games I just max out the resolution and turn the graphics to shit lol BUT if there's a singleplayer game I want to play that with good graphics.

You'll be fine with an r9 280 but if you want to you can get the r9 280x or the r9 290 but they will be overkill for 1680x1280..
