Hi :)

After help from a topic I made yesterday, I have finally started to order parts for my first ever PC build - needless to say I'm rather excited.. However, with this being my first build I am a little nervous, and subsequently I have a few questions which I would appreciate answers too if anyone can.

(This is the build by the way:

  1. Do I need to buy one of those static mats/bracelets that grounds you to build this? or can you just do it on a lino/hardwood floor?
  2. Am I in need of any extra cables for this? or any cables that you recommend..
  3. Is a regular screw driver ok to use, or do I need to pick up a magnetic one, or a particular one?
  4. As I am 100% new too this (finally switched to PC from console  :P ) could anyone link me to a step by step bios/OS/whatever its called set up? because I have absolutely no clue how to use the bios and that's a rather major part of the set up.
  5. Finally, once everything is up and working, which (if any) drivers do I need to install..? I've been told most of the parts come with disks, but if you looked at the build you can see I don't have an optical drive. (As the case doesn't support one)

Some of these questions may seem stupid to some of you but you were new too this once too don't forget. Thank you for your time.

P.S if anyone could recommend me a 24" monitor that has as thin a bezel as possible that would be brilliant because I'm struggling to find one.

1. No, if you just touch the metal on your case periodically you will have zero problems.

2. All cables are included.

3. Magnetic is nice in case you drop a screw, just a standard size phillips head will do.

4. We can guide you through really easy, it varies by board (your link doesn't work) and you really don't have anything you need to do in the BIOS. OS installation is just clicking next to be honest.

5. LAN/Wireless drivers would be the most important. Chipset and gpu drivers after that. Everything else is just to update in case it needs to update but won't hinder your computer if you don't.

Fixed link: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/plowmannn/saved/3tdgXL

1.As long as you know how to ground then you don't need them

2.neh

3.Should be ok, magnetic would make your life easier... and if it's a ratcheting one... even better!

4.Plug everything right and you shouldn't have problems... except for 2 parts in the setup, but it can be done looking mb's manual: Setting XMP profile for RAM and Changing drive mode to AHCI

5.Drivers:

-MB:

-Chipset: the ones that come with the disc are enough

-LAN: the ones that come with the disc are enough

-USB 3.0: the ones that come with the disc are enough

-Smart connect and other features: the ones that come with the disc are enough

-Audio: the ones that come with the disc are enough

-GPU: Get the latest from Nvidia Site

-Peripherals: ONLY IF NEEDED, if they work correctly they probably include useless propietary software (unless it's needed for macros, resolution adjusting, etc...)

yeah i realised the link was broken because i put brackets in - all fixed now.

Ok thats a little more comforting, I think I might just buy a cheap external reader if its all on the discs. Thank you :D

That is an awesome looking rig! I would love to see some pictures when it's finished!

And for your questions:

1: You can do it on the hardwood floor

2: You don't need any extra cables

3: Magnetic is always better

4: Only XMP setup, which is simple

5: You can download it on another computer (if you have one available) from the manufacturers website

Everything that's in my PC and on my desk

Yeah I realised when I posted it, should be fixed now- thank you.

Where would I find these LAN/Wireless drivers, would they come with the board? Thank you for the help.

I'm hoping to make a topic when all the parts arrive and I have all the info I need :) If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is XMP?

Thanks

There's all the drivers included with the board on a CD, but there's a good chance that the manufacturer has updated ones on their site. If you install Windows and can't connect to the internet, go grab the driver off the CD, it works but you'll still want to see if it can be updated afterwards.
