CPU has higher clock speed than normal

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Look at your BIOS to see what settings it's at. Windows isn't showing clock speed. It's showing the label Intel put in the CPU's microcode.

Hey everybody,

I'm having a weird issue with my CPU, which is an i5-4690k. In Control Panel on Windows 7, it says it is clocked at 3.5Ghz, which is Intel's advertised clock speed.

However, in NZXT Cam, CPU-Z, and Open Hardware Monitor, it says my clockspeed is around 4.5 Ghz.

I just built this PC a few weeks ago, and have not had time to OC it yet. I get normal temps with my Corsair H60. Idle is 30C and almost full load is around 60C.

Any ideas? Did something happen during binning and I got a mislabeled chip? Or are the sensors faulty?

I would go into the bios and look there...maybe try afterburner to see your cpu clock speed or windows task manager

Just checked BIOS. Apparently my Maximus VII Hero automatically increased the Turbo Frequency, which OCed my CPU to 4.6 Ghz. Thanks everyone.
