Hey guys,

i have an old (roughly 5 years) pre-built computer from an Australian brand (Pryon)

over the past 2 years i have replaced the PSU (was ripped off have way more power than any build should need), added an extra fan and upped the GPU to a GTX 760. The time has come for me to upgrade the MOBO (currently and old Foxconn) and CPU (an early i5)

Thats where you guys come in.

I think i have settled on the AMD FX 6300 and was looking for a MOBO to support the rest of my Franken-build (has to be compatible with my RAM

my parts -

notes -

i have no overclocking experience but would be open to trying it

fairly tight budget

first time replacing parts myself

Planning on wiping my HDD

Cheers, Trusty

ps is there any issue transferring from intel to AMD

There is no issue from transfering to Intel from AMD (or the other way round), apart from the price premium.

And at this point you've basically completely rebuilt the PC. In MOST circumstances I'd recommend a G3258 and any H97 motherboard. Would probably be just fine with the GTX760 and gives you a platform to build off of in the Intel Motherboards in a later iteration. AMD haven't updated their FX chips in a while, they're approaching outdated-ness.

I personally can't recommend AM3+ processors anymore. If you want a budget AMD pc, get a APU or 860K. Or a i3 + H81 board

if the AMD FX 6300 is a bad choice can anyone suggest an alternative roughly same price range

It's not a bad choice. I have the 6100 sitting in my computer right now and it runs wonderfully.

id go with anthlon 4k 860k if ur dead set on that budget. get a 212 evo overclock it to 4.5 and be a happy camper. id never go duo core unless ur just web browsing or doing micro things, games do use 4 cores now and duo cores do the job but not nearly as well.

I3 has hyper threading and it still gets the job done gaming.

Just the graphics card and memory alone costs $300

And your total budget is $320?

I think its for mobo + cpu. But if total is 300... I don't even know what to recommend
