Can wifi problems have anything to do with the antenna?

Cy-Fy

Hey guys, I have a laptop which used to connect just fine to the internet, now it only connects whenever I am right beside my router. Could this be the antenna? Or the wireless card? The thing that makes me think that it is the antenna is that whenever signal is received, internet works just fine.

Do you know if I can simply replace the antenna and if it is worth it? Or a way to check if it actually is the antenna? Or am I better off using a USB dongle?

Thanks very much!!!
