Failing PSU

In the last month I have had increasing issues with my Corsair VS650, namely it being unable to push out as much power as the generic 500W that came with my case (overclocking is no longer possible as of this morning, and even boost causes the 970 to de-stabilize). Today after choosing a replacement (EVGA B2 750W) I had it almost completely fail on me, and for a while I thought that it had fried my GTX 970 (luckily after half an hour it was fine), with the smell of burning electronics coming from my computer (familiar with it after my ancient 1TB verbatim external drive had its SATA adapter fail, and take the HDD's PCB with it). Is there anyway I could stretch out what life it has left? Because the 500W PSU is in my web server, and I don't want to go even try my old (2002) 400W generic PSU as the last time it was used it killed 2 HDD and CD burner.

Heck! That's crapload of bad luck mate. Sorry about your PSU problems. That definitely sucks!

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

It has a three year warranty which you might still be under, if I were you I'd RMA/dispose of it and not try to use it at all.

I spent hours trying to contact corsair with no success, which is why I'm trying to get the VS650 to last as long as possible.

Try using their online RMA service. I've only ever had excellent experience with them. In one case I received a response in 5mins  :o
