I get fairly random drops in my FPS and I can't seem to figure out whats causing them.

I know they call for a Quad core and I am running a G3258 (specs in profile), but running a CPU activity monitor while playing showed I wasn't even under full load most of the time. I've tried turning all my setting to the lowest possible, and while it puts me at 200+FPS just standing around and 70-90 while in combat, I still get the horrendous dips that make the game unplayable for a second or two. the drops seem completely random too, can happen in the middle of a huge fight, can happen when I climbing a hill by myself away from any action.

I would blame my internet, but it seems to be running solid at the moment and I don't have any issues with other games.

Any ideas?

Hm.

How's your RAM usage when playing PS2?

I'll be honest, I haven't really checked RAM usage, BUT wouldn't turning all setting to min or off (shadows) make a noticeable difference if that was the case? Settings on high, medium, or low I still get the massive drops.

You should probably check your RAM usage.

That's mainly graphical so I'm not sure how much of an effect it would have on RAM usage - the engine still needs to run and it's pretty unoptimized (or at least was).

Sig under construction.

Good free software for monitoring RAM usage?

When I did my build I intended to expand up to 8GB soon after and haven't done it yet. Just got paid, maybe I'll pick up another 2x2GB set.

RAM may indeed be the issue, getting a number of hard faults when gaming that seem to coincide with the random fps drops also using nearly 90% of memory while playing.

Sound about right?

Looks like I'll be ordering another dual channel set tonight.

I'm gonna guess that since nobody said no, it's a yes... maybe?

Well I kinda feel like an idiot. When messing with my CPU overclock I restored the board to defaults and forgot to turn back up my RAM, was running at 1400 instead of 1600. Fixed that and coupled with another 4GB (2x2GB), I think I may have it all sorted out.
