AMD R7 m270 on Laptop

danfoofoo

I'm looking into a laptop that has an optional R7 M270 graphics chip.  However, I can't find any information on this graphics chip at all.  The closest I've seen is the R9 M270, but I'm not sure if it's the same.  I'm looking for any information that can give me a more informed decision before buying this laptop.  The laptop in question is:

http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-5548-laptop/pd?oc=dncwm2656s&model_id=inspiron-15-5548-laptop

Any information on the graphics chip with comparison is much appreciated.

It is probably a rebrand of this thing http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8790M.86796.0.html

and it is definitely a typo

r7 m270 does not exist.

Thanks for the comments, I'm okay with it if it's a typo of R9 270M, but I'm more on the fence if it's a rebrand of the 8790m.  Just wish I don't have to roll the dice for a near $1k laptop. Thanks!

typo happens, it's R9 M270 (unless they meant R7 M265)

I can't find the chip on notebookcheck either. However the R9 M270 satisfies the specs slightly. It's got 4GB vRAM, but it's GDDR5 and not GDDR3 like the website is stating.

It's possible it's a hell of a new chip, but it's not using integrated graphics of any kind to boost performance as it doesn't have an APU.

It appears to be the R7 M265, which is this chip http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R7-M265.109394.0.html which is even worse because it's a rebrand of THIS chip http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8750M.87147.0.html the 8750M.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Don't buy that thing for 1k it's awful. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-5547-Notebook-Review.122261.0.html The screen is disgusting, build quality is questionable.

What if it's $650 before tax?  There's a coupon code for $100 off and I have a $200 dell gift card, bring it from $950 to $650.  I'm mostly using this for dev work and VM work, with some gaming on the side at friend's house.  I have a desktop with a decent graphics card if I'm gaming at home.

I couldn't use it because of how awful the screen is. But if you can live with it then sure why not.

I would get this instead though.

Comes with broadwell and touch and much nicer overall laptop. It has 4K screen...

actually scratch that. the 15 5000 comes with ips display too it's just 1080p. my bad. I would still go for the 7000 series though, it's not plastic.
