I am very new to building computers and I need opinions On whether or not my parts are good enough. Here is my setup: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/J9Qy99

I wanted to keep it on the cheap side, but I really want the GTX 970. I also want to get another 970 in the future to sli. Is my cpu good enough? Also, should I buy any extra fans for anything? I don't plan on overclocking.

You mean a 970, cuz thats what i see in your PL. I would keep the 970 to be honest. Everything else looks ok. I would also get an SSD if you can afford it.

Right off the bat, you have a locked processor with a ZX7 series overclockable motherboard. You can save some money by going with an H board, since you don't plan on OC'ing

MATX motherboard /w ATX case, the motherboard will look quite small, but if you're okay with that then I guess it's fine.

Yes sorry, I changed it to the 970. And like I said, I'm pretty new to this. Do you mind explaining what you mean by H board?

He means get a motherboard like this (not the exact one) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131994

Yeah, sure

Z series boards (like the Z87 you chose) are for overclocking. If you are not planning on overlclocking, you can go with an H series board, which are not meant for overlocking. Plus, your CPU is locked (meaning it cannot be overclocked), so a Z series board is just a waste anyways. A H87 board would be the best choice. However, if you want to save some more money, but sacrifice some features, you can go H81

Thanks. From what I've seeing none of the H boards support sli.

He may want to OC later when he buys say... some 56** processor.  Better to have that option then to have to buy a new board later

Ahhhh. I didn't see that you wanted to go SLI in the future. Apologies. In that case, yes, a Z87 board would be your choice. Sorry.. I just clicked the PCPartpicker link. :P

I'm honestly scared to overclock. For one I don't want to break anything. And I'm not sure how many or what kind of fans to get if I do.

Haha no problem. I just wasn't sure if I knew what I was talking about.

Should I get a MATX case? Are there any downsides to it?

Purely aesthetic, if you're okay with a MATX board on an ATX case, then its fine, infact you probably want to look for a ATX motherboard as they are generally better for the same  price, unless you want that form factor, but since you're looking at a ATX case then you probably aren't.

Don't worry bro, I've been there

I have OC'ed just fine on stock, and with cooler chips around the corner, that will be even easier.  As long as you don't keep your pc in the closet with no airflow, OC'ing doesn't require any special cooling and can still yield good results.  If you don't want to get too technical, most (all as far as I know; probably some obscure one that doesn't) motherboards also come with a one-click safe OC preset.  I used this to boost my friend's 4690k from 3.5 to 4.4 no problem.  Haven'y had any issues since either.
