So a few years back I was a kid with not knowledge of gaming and just play any AAA games on my poor old laptop for the fun of it and wishing to get an alienware. And all those games were pirated. I didn't know any better. Looking for "proper" games were too much of a hassle since I can't find any store that sells them physically within 4 provinces and 2 countries and buying online was too risky considering Nigeria's internet connection wasn't the most secure of connections, nor the fastest. Then 2 years ago, I found steam, humble bundle, and actual knowledge of pc components other than "i7 and Alienware make games go woooosh". I started backing down on pirating games. Sure, buying games was harder than torrenting it cause I had to pay my friend who had a credit card in order to get it, but it's cheaper than renting pirated games, or torrenting them with unstables seeds. And now I can say that I can support my own gaming hobbies. Sure, I don't eat as much and I've lost 15 kg in 3 months, but I blame college for that. I don't play big games as much as before cause doing that won't let get a new keyboard, but I'm proud of it!

If you're not overweight and you lost 30 pounds then I would suggest pirating again and eat since food is a bit more important than video games.

I've lost my trust in the game producers, releasing unfinished games and so on, burned myself with a few preorders so I no longer buy a game unless I can test it somewhere. Usually it's at a friends place or get opinions online, read reviews and comments and so on and then I buy the game. Before, it was simple, the game developer releases a free demo, I play it, if I'm satisfied I purchase and so on. These days I get why they don't release a demo, because the game sucks and most of it's budget goes to marketing instead of making it good. :)

Basically this.

If I'm not certain I can run the game, I'll admit, I might pirate it and test it, see if I can (typically I can, but there are games that have issues.) If I pirated it, the game already has my interest, but if I can't run it enjoyably, then I don't really see a reason in playing or buying it.
