The new 15" Alienware laptop runs an i5 4210H dual core with 3MB cache. This is an interesting product because at $1200 it sports GTX 965m, an IPS display, a 4th gen haswell cpu, and a hybrid (although limited) hard drive. I want to get a laptop that can run current games at high (not ultra) settings at respectable FPS. My question is would this processor be able to handle the current games out there, or would I be better off with a laptop with a better processor (i7 4710HQ) but worse GPU (GTX 860m) for my $1200 budget?

Alienware because its the ONLY laptop I could find in my budget (<$1200) that had 900 series GPU.

that's not a bad deal and at least with alienware it's build quality is good. That i5 is comparable with desktop i3's, in most games it will be fine. In other games like online BF4 it could be a bit of a bottleneck but nothing groundbreaking. Always go for more GPU horsepower if you have the choice (to some extent obviously).

Alienware for the simple fact that that it is the only laptop  $1200 or less with the 900 series GPU. I custom built a dozen Sager configurations and they are all out of my budget with comparable GPU.

No you didn't

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Also, I'm going to further add to it. Man up and save another $100 and get an i7 with a 970M or something. The i5 is a dual core CPU. Anything that requires a quadcore to work fine (like a 2500K) will INSTANTLY lock your machine below min spec.

ALSO the new alienwares suck.

I should note that the computer must have an operating system. You have to add on another $80. But i guess what it comes down to is the CPU. If the i5 4210H doesn't bottleneck the GPU, I can get the extras such as an IPS display, hybrid hard drive, and the build quality and features of the Alienware.

If my budget were a little higher I would go with:

Sager NP8268-S

 i7-4710MQ

GTX 970M (6.0GB)

120GB Samsung 840 EVO Series mSATA SSD

1TB 7200RPM HD

***$1376.00***

Win 8 keys are like $20 on G2A.

If you want to skimp on your system (with an INTEGRATED CPU no less) by all means feel free go right ahead. I've given my advice.
