Hey all.

I wanted to ask before making a purchase since this area is still very unknown to myself.

What are the tools that I am going to need to record(and maybe stream) ps3(and later on probably ps4) and maybe also some footage streaming from pc too.

What kind of Capture card are you recommending, I am looking for someone who could tell me easy simple way to start. Hopefully someone around here has recorded footage from consoles(even if this site is mostly of pc techies)

So far I would be very intrested in http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-GL310-AVerCapture-Capture-Streaming/dp/B00K5A8FP2 this capture card.

Elgato's are very good. The HD60 is really good, but you can't use that one for the PS3.

The original Elgato is still fine at the moment.

It can also record PC via HDMI (if you can do the audio via HDMI too)

Yep. HDCP is exactly the problem.

The recently brang out a patch for PS4 so you can disable the HDCP, but they still have that on PS3.

If you want to record on PS3, you have to get component cables for you PS3.

Avermedia LGP would support hdmi pass trough do you think this would avert the issue?

It does say it supports PS3, why don't you look up a tutorial on YouTube on how to connect the AverMedia to a PS3?

I have the ElGato Game Capture HD.   It works as advertised, comes with everything you'd need to hook it up, and I believe it's cheaper now than when I bought it.  I've made a couple of videos with it, but my son has made several more and has them on YouTube (of course with very few views).   I've recorded on the PS3, he has recorded on the Wii U.    And we both used our [my] Astro headset.

One thing in particular I like about it is that it records on a delay, so if something happens on-screen or in the room, you'll have about 3-5 seconds to stop recording I guess.  Or you can just edit it out later.  It comes with free editing software that also works pretty well. We record/edit with my MacBook Pro (dual core i7).   I guess we could edit with his computer, but, just haven't. No reason why really.

What do you mean about a "simple way to start"?

Thank you for your input,

I did mean simple way ;) since I don't have hands on experience on capture cards yet.

So by simple start I was generally meaning, something that would be easy to set up, easy to use and understand software interface, with minimal need for troubleshooting and driver problems.

Thanks to all who have put theyer thoughts on this... The purchase of product will postpone by 1-2 weeks <_<

Ah.. "start" as in getting it connected.   I wasn't sure if you meant in a more broad scope like uploading and attracting attention to your uploads.  (In which case I'd have no idea.)

As far as connecting everything, if you go with an ElGato product, just read the quick-start guide and just pay attention to your cables. :)  There will be a few of them.  The interface for their capture software is fairly simple, too.  But if you already have a favorite video editor, you can still use it by importing the video file.  It makes an MP4 container with H264 format.
