I was looking into making a ramdisk, but I was curious.  Can I just transfer files onto it, use them until i'm done, then transfer it back into program files or wherever it was before?

I know there was a post about this before but I can't find it :s

Edit:

What I mean is like.. Can I transfer over the files to a game onto the ram disk, play until I'm bored, then transfer them back into program files?

you could...but that game wouldn't use the files transferred to the ramdisk unless you installed the game onto the ramdisk.

lame.. so I'd have to install it on the ramdisk from scratch, and I wouldn't be able to transfer the saves afterwards? :s

Yup, you will need to install the game to it to be able to play it. Most games won't work if you just copy over the files because the game will be looking for them where they were installed.
SOmetimes games save in my documents instead of their own folder. Need for Speed does this.

Also this is a nice, free program for a RAM disc: http://www.softperfect.com/products/ramdisk/

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

well with a ramdisk you can back up whats on the ramdisk to the HDD/SSD and then restore it to the ramdisk afterwards.

but moving a 10-20(+)GB game from an HDD to the ramdisk would take quite a while,especially if you plan to do it on a semi-frequent basis.

you could make the transfer times much shorter by using an SSD,but if you have an SSD then there's virtually no reason to use a ramdisk,because while a ramdisk has more than 10x faster read/write speeds there aren't any files the game needs to access that would benefit from those much faster speeds,
