Looking for a new drive

baconite

Hey guys, I'm looking to replace a 2TB and 3Tb drive. My 2tb is going super slow and my 3tB is almost full. I would like something with as much or more space, and less then $300. I will also not buy seagate drives, as they are the only drives I've had unexpectedly die on me. I am in Canada and am pretty close to ncix, so I'll probably be buying from them. Other retailers are a consideration if the prices are significantly lower after shipping (would still be shipping from ncix not buying in store). Basically, I am looking at the WD green 2TB drives, but there are also red and black and probably magentas and I don't know what the colours mean.

Any suggestions, or pointers at other drives would be awesome.

Thank you

Black: Good for Gaming

Green: Power saving and slower than the rest.

Blue: Overall good performance, but only comes in a 1TB option.

Red: Mainly for RAID Arrays were there will be 24/7 use.

Purple: Security Camera Setup.

WD color chart
Green: usually 5400rpm, slower, draw the least power
Red: servers, meant for 24 hour use
Black: performance line, usually 7200 rpm or higher, longer ~5 year warranty, usually most expensive
Blue: general consumer ~ 3 year warranty
Purple: security cameras

They also bought out Hitachi if I remember right so HGST drives are also made by them. This is the one i would recommend.

Edited. Was from a while ago when I was shopping for a hard drive but looks like they are all 3 year now from WD's site.

Ahh, got it, Thank you guys for giving me a lot of information.

I'll either get 2 of these:

or 1 of them and one of these:

which would put me a bit higher then $300 but oh well.
