As you can already tell by my signature, I'm planning on builiding this on Friday:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xzpXdC

Basically I already have the CPU cooler, half the RAM (4x1Gb), and the PSU from a recent build. I also already have a 7200RPM 160gb HDD, so ignore that crappy Caviar for right now.

The build featured an FX 4130 and an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3. I originally wanted to upgrade to a 6350 or FX 8320, but people told me that I'm better off buying an i5 and the motherboard. And basically thats how I came up with that Intel build. The problem is, my budget is only 450 for this upgrade. With the AMD build, I could invest more on the other components, but I'd be stuck with a dead socket and completely outdated chipset (760G). The Intel build will cost more, be more recent, but I don't really see any other pros to that compared to the AMD build.

What do you guys think? I have to decide before Friday, so....

Do you have an existing case?

Let me get this straight...

So you just need another 4gb of ram (you have 1x4gb now?)

CPU

Motherboard

Video Card

Whether AMD or Intel the CPU motherboard combo wont be that different in price if you are going to get a proper AM3+ motherboard.

The intel upgrade will be around $450-500 depends on how you shave $ off the build
