I have two different builds planned (see bottom). I can't decide. Would they both be acceptable for gaming, sometimes 10 hours on end? Let me know which I should build.

Tiny, could take with me, cheaper, slightly less powerful:

Bigger, more expensive, more powerful, not portable:

What do yall think?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

why do people build desktop computers to be portable?

They're more powerful than laptops.

On your 2nd build (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3RqM23), why not go with a H97 board instead of a Z97 board, your processor is locked, you could also buy the SSD first, try MX100 and save for a HDD later. Everything is fine except for those stated.

You could also squeeze more on your first build. Why not get an Air 240 or a Prodigy M/Phenom M to have more expand-ability and then switch the Barracuda to a MX100 and buy the HDD later, switch your RAM to something like A-DATA SPG (low profile RAM) or a G.Skill Ares, also go for a H97 chipset because you're using a Refresh Processor.

why do you go to your friends house there is a thing called online where you two can play together without being in the same house

Better communication speed. No laggy Skype.
