Far Cry 3 or 4?

so I'm about to get to build my first PC, and I'll finally get a chance to play some high end games

seeing videos and articles about Far Cry 4, the most common theme I found was that it's pretty much Far Cry 3 99% of the time.

would you guys recommend that I play 3 before 4 or what? what would give a better experience overall?

Far cry 4 = far cry 3 with a little better graphics and mountains

 

I like FC3 better.

I had the original Far Cry back in 2004/5. I just got Far Cry 3. You should list your CPU and GPU specs. I am running it on Ultra settings @ 1920x1080 with no MSAA. I would suggest you get both and probably you will want Crysis 3.

Far cry 4 is slightly better to me, I prefer the setting over Far cry 3 much more. But you can get 3 much cheaper, might as well get it because they are not that different.

could it be because FC4 felt like you already knew the story since you played FC3? or it's really just like that?

like butter? maybe by comparison of 4, but as far as the graphics go they are far from anything special. Really bad considering the gpu performance too.

Far cry 3 looks VERY GOOD IMO.

And it runs pretty well on my system.

 

As all pc games performance will vary but i have no complaints.

That is the right CPU and right graphics card. I would suggest 16GB of ram as well.

I would get FC4. Played an hour of 3 then never touched it again. So far I'm about three hours into 4. The mountainous area In FC4 is more attractive to play in, in my opinion.

Far Cry 3 benefits from V-sync. Not all games need it or benefit from it. I also noticed MSAA 2x works better than none at all.

It stutters with vsync as well. FC4 too.

I thought FC3 was a bit better. The antagonists in FC3 felt more evil to me, where in FC4 the antagonist is actually kinda likable. Its probably also worth mentioning that FC3 is more stable than FC4, FC4 still crashes for me every now and then.

I think the FC4 antagonist is better, since it made me question myself about the things the game wants you to do.

I did like the choices you face throughout FC4 but I never got the feeling that Pegan Min was evil in the same way I thought Voss and Hoyte were.

 

Did you let Pegan Min go?

I haven't finished 4 yet, played 3 on 360 it was fun and i seem to be playing it more than 4 atm. The thing about far cry is that it starts slowly and i hate not being able to skip all the cutscenes and save for long periods of the mission.

Definitely Far Cry 3!!  It runs perfectly smooth, looks amazing and just the story just blew me away! Even if you dont play it now, one day you will have to or you’d have missed a masterpiece!

Go with Far Cry 3 on a Steam sale, but only because Far Cry 4 is so expensive. I really don't think you need to play more than one of the two.
