what would you reccomend me to buy instead?

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or ASUS Z97-A or Z97-AR whichever you like the most...if you have no intentions on using dual graphics cards down the road then i'd suggest the cheapest Z97 motherboard available to you, most likely the Asrock Z97 anniversary boards or MSI Z97 PC Mate.

Other good choices depending on the prices could be:

MSI Z97S SLI Plus

MSI Z97S SLI Kraith

MSI Z97 G45 Gaming

Asus Z97-E

MSI Z97 G45 Gaming. Anything more expensive then that would be a waste of money. Performs just as well as the ROG boards, and IMO looks even nicer, more subtle black and red color scheme.

Asus Z97 boards generally aren't that competitive for the price, and they don't look that great, nor do the Z97 Anniversary or Z97 PC Mate.

good to note that even though i strongly agree with you on this, the Z97 G45 gaming as a strong brownish color feel to it...once inside a case you won't notice it and looks black but it's not....the Gaming 5 is a black PCB.

i agree but i can't just suggest MSI gaming line motherboards i don't want to look like a fanboy with the machine in my sig being MSI gaming sponsored i have to offer alternatives even though i personaly think that Z97 G45 gaming or Z97 Gaming 5 are as good as it gets for the price.

Some other suggestions where added after you quoted the post as well.

Depends on what you're able to get. Here in Canada the Gaming 5 is more expensive then G45 Gaming so not worth the extra cost for a slightly different color PCB that you won't notice unless you have a white case and/or white LEDs.

In some places though they're around the same price so Gaming 5 would be a better option if you have a few bucks to blow

Gigabyte?

Gigabyte UEFI is terrible from my experience and controling the fans within both the software or bios is a PIA and in fact impossible to do...i had to rely on speedfan which is ALSO a PIA...so i'm very reticent in recommanding ANY gigabyte motherboards until they put their shit togheter and release boards that have an UEFI that is not designed by a 9 year old.

top choices are IMHO:

Z97 G45 Gaming (if brownish PCB is not an issue for you)

Z97 Gaming 5 (perfect)

Z97-AR (if you think better software suite is more important than a killer sexy dragon and you like ugly boards)

Z97 Kraith if you build a black and white rig.

oh really! and are you able to control the fans from the UEFI and set profiles? (not talking about selecting quiet, normal or performance which is not even something that actualy works)

This is what proper fan control manegement looks like:

it canbe done though the exelent software but if you realy want good fan control go with asus they are the best in fan control

and why should i need to because the standard setting is good enough and if i want a custom one i just do it in the software

well that is the point if you want to do everything in the UEFI then buy MSI or ASUS or heck even ASROCK

if you want to do something in the UEFI (OC is quite good in my mind on gigabyte) and the rest like fan control or changing OC profiles in software then buy Gigabyte

p.s. ASUS has exelent software aswell
