I just wanted to ask if it is possible to either SLI or Crossfire 2 cards that sits far away from each other? e.g, if a motherboard has 5 Pcie 16x slots, will a card sitting in slot 1 be able to SLI / Crossfire with a card sitting in slot 5? To be more specific, I'm trying to fit 2 R9 295x2 onto a Rampage V Extreme board and I'm planning to put the first card in the 1st slot and the second card in the last slot so I can fit more expansion cards onto the board

Yes i think so. for any slot.

yes

They need to be wired to support pcie x8 for sli.

For the Rampage V Extreme, any of the slots will do.
