No. I think it's definitely a step in the right direction, just not a big one

I think it's awesome. Same connector on laptop, desktop, and mobile is a win in my book!

I expect all phones and tablets to use it. It is smaller, more durable, and reversible, a selling point.

The 100W thing on Type C, that we won't see. it is a bit silly. Monitors don't consume that much. Older CCFL based monitor are obviously not compatible as they don't have Type C connector.

And, well, you would need a big connector from the PSU to the motherboard to feed the Type C power delivery specification, as for sure the motherboard circuitry can't handle it (wire too thin, not to mention interference it will create if a 100W consuming device is plugged in, let alone 50W. Yes granted it all digital, but there is a point where digital can't handle it anymore and 1's will appears where they should be 0's. I am not sure if 100W can do this for sure, I am no electric engineer, but it could be. It sure will affect your sound chip analogue signal, so that would suck).

As for charging/powering a mobile system. Every years the power requirement drops with more and more efficiency processors, and board circuitry design, not to mention the OS implementing power saving features with hardware vendors. The push is no longer about performance, I mean we do get some, but the focus in the industry is power efficiency. And for more demanding systems, like gaming laptops, well it consume ay more than that, at least for now. It will take a great number of years before we see 100W gaming laptop.

Combined with 3.1 it'll be good. It won't do a damn thing for the current USB connectors, too many installs.
