So a month and a half ago I built a completely new gaming rig and I got got windows 8.1 to go with it because I could get it for free so why not. Ive got 16GBs of Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2400 MHz RAM and on nearly every monday/tuesday (it will sometimes skip a week) all of my RAM gets used by some unknown operation. I will just turn my computer on and it will be using 15.3GBs+ of RAM for no obvious reason. It usually stops sometime later on that week but its extremely annoying. I think it is trying to install some sort of update but im not positive... so yeah. Please help....

Oh and also I will go into my task manager to check if any operations are using an over large amount of RAM and according to that none of them are, only one operation is using any large amount of RAM and its only using in the 21% area. It just says that im using 98% of my RAM and doesnt give me any good reason

Service Host Local System seem to be the culprit

sort the list by name and see if the process of similar name comes out

expand the name section

Ive done several restarts over the past couple hours but it finally fixed itself after this one. But I know that the problem isnt completely fixed yet, it will be back with a vengeance next week (You see what I did there... my RAM... Corsair Vengeance? Nevermind) I want to try to get it this problem fixed because having a $1500 computer that doesnt function a quarter of the time is one of the worst feelings

could be some programs memory leaking

this is because most applications are made for 32 bit OS when all OS now are 64bit

I highly doubt it's because of using 32bit programs, this would happen with 64bit programs as well, this looks to me like not all of your RAM is being recognised all of the time.

Could you go to System Properties in Control Panel and tell us what it says there regarding your RAM, If it says anything less than 16GB then you might have a problem with hardware that might be fixed by reseating your RAM.
If it's showing all of your RAM as being there and available to use then we'll have to see what programs you have running at startup and try disabling them.

I don't think it's due to Service Host, that amount of usage is high, but if you only have part of your RAM working then it'll look high, but when all 16GB of RAM is available it won't be anywhere near as much of a percentage.

But Windows is a weird beast, it sometimes will have major brain farts and not work for ages, and then all of a sudden be absolutely fine and never give another problem for months or even years.
