so i've been playing a bit of alien isolation on my UHD display but it seems to be a fair bit laggy even though the display is a 1ms and im getting a solid fps of 55 and not dipping below 42fps, it feels like playing on 50" tv with a 8ms response time!?!?!?!

Is vsync enabled? if so try it disabled.

That isn't how GTG response times work. Seems like you are referring to input lag, something which I think is increased at much higher resolutions (depending on the panel). It also depends on the hardware running it.

What display are you using? Most 4k displays only do 30hz unless specified and you need a display port cable to do so. If you're monitor doesn't support 60hz in 4k or you're using HDMI that might be why.

VSync is disabled and the problem just gets worse when it is enabled, i am using a samsung U28D590D 28inch which is a 60hz panel and i am using display port 1.2

When you say laggy what are we talking about. lag as in stuttering or input lag?

like i press "W" and it walks a couple ms later, or turn and it still turns a bit after i have stopped moving the mouse

Yeah that sounds like input lag which is usual caused by vsync...but as you said you have that disabled. But as i do recall the other night (i have the game too) it doesn't feel very responsive for me either. I think it may just be the way the game is meant to be.

Lol, response time is something you're not likely to notice.

1 ms = 0.001 seconds

8 ms = 0.008 seconds.

Average human response time is around 200 - 250 ms.

Unless faulty, I highly doubt the monitor is to blame.

I bet your one of those people who are like 30fps is fine since thats all the human eye can see anyway.

Yep. If human response time was 200ms then there would be no need for high framerates and low input lag-displays.

Not disagreeing with you, but there was this website where the screen changed colors and you had to click as fast as you could. If it was accurate, which I think it was, the average response time for people was around 250ms. That's just the time it takes to move a finger, but we can definitely notice latencies much smaller than that.

Thanks for taking my suggestion that it had nothing to do with response time and using it to insult me.

I'd take a steady 30 with 8ms response time over the jittery shit you're getting.

Have fun.

My point was more that 7ms is unlikely to have a great impact.

Blinking takes more than 200 - 250ms and when was the last time you blinked and genuinely missed something?

Blinking may take that long but the amount of time your eyes can't see anything must be shorter than that.

i wasn't trying to insult you at all but i can easily tell the different between my 8ms TV on game mode and my 1ms monitor on game mode!!

Are you sure that's not ghosting or motion blur of sorts? It is important to remember that GTG response time isn't a standardised measurement, nor does it gauge the total amount of time between you moving your mouse and the effect showing on the screen.
