Intel Nuc vs Custom HTPC

Is it worth my time to build a custom HTPC or should I just get an i3 Intel Nuc and buy the ram and stuff for it?

A NUC can cost a bit more, sometimes, but you can hide it extremely well. I'd price it out and then decide.

I would go for the HTPC.. Especially if you like customization.

NUC is more compact and convenient, and lower power as well

if you got a NUC with Iris or Iris pro graphics, it'd be IMO better than a HTPC

Use the nuc as it's much smaller, only do a custom if you plan on playing video games locally on that machine

The NUC, it's very tiny. It can be a bit pricey since you have to add your own SSD, mPCIe Wi-Fi module, and RAM.

The NUC or something similar will do you quite nicely. There are also other vendors who make a similar product, such as the Gigabyte Brix. If you are using this box for storing and streaming movies, music, etc., definetely go for the smaller NUC or similar. If you plan on doing game streaming or local gaming, definetely build your own HTPC.

If you're gonna store your data in the network anyway and do not plan to game, go with a NUC.
