I am having the worst time with lag playing BF4. My speeds are just short of 30 down and 8 ish up and they are extremely unstable and my ping is around 10. That is what a speed test said but sometimes when I download things it often drops down into the 20kBs. It took me 2 days to download the game. Anyway I have gotten auto messages in games that my ping is over 1000. I cannot connect to servers, and when I do I usually lag out. Sometimes though I can find a good server but the max I have ever gone without lagging out was 1 game of conquest. I have re downloaded it and fixed it in origin what do I do. Please help

If you haven't already, try adjusting the network settings in BF4 to optimize them for maximum performance. If that doesn't work, try contacting your ISP and mentioning the problem to them.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

So am I just f*** until I run Ethernet

Not really. Usually wifi is okay - assuming you have a decent router - but Ethernet is always better if you can have it.

My router is trash it is the one Verizon gives you. And my router is in a cynderblock closet in my basement because that is the only place in the entire house that has ethernet

That...explains a lot. I'd either try and run Ethernet to your computer or get a much better router. And if you get a better router, make sure you have a good wifi adapter for your desktop.

One question about your internet speeds though - is the 30 down and 8 up your advertised speeds by Verizon or was it measured by Speedtest from that same computer? And was that measured over wifi or Ethernet?
