The upgrade will keep files but not programs

honestly I think backing up and doing a clean install is the best method

Hmmm so it is better if i were to unplug my HDDs and then proceed on installing on my ssd?

there are problems sure, but I upgraded hundreds of machines in the store clinic I worked in, generally they went without a hitch, even on older machines

Of course, I have installed numerous Windows 7 drivers on Windows 8 machines and it's been fine, I have also done the opposite and its been fine.

Sure thats an option too :D just do a clean install on your SSD and connect your drives later

I think when doing an OS upgrade its a good time to spring clean :D
