Windows 8.1 reset gone wrong

Go to solution Solved by Mistral3031,

not trying to rez a pretty much dead post but just wanted to update that i was able to fix the issue it ended up being a certain windows 8.1 update that was screwing things up, i was able to solve by installing my programs first right after the 8.1 update then apply all other 8.1 updates after, ty to all who jumped to my aid trying to help me solve the problem

I thought it would be a good idea to do a full reset on my laptop and a secondary desktop I own just to clear out all the junk files and bad registory stuff and give them a fresh start. My problem is the same on both machines and I have spent hours and hours trying to fix and google it with zero luck. The Problem is the reset goes off with out a hitch and I run all the windows updates threw but as soon as I install any software I mean any software the machine will hang on both restart and shutdown and once I force shutdown it will boot up fine till I type my windows password witch will result in black screen with one dialog box saying windows is personlize setting for "insert name of software here" and will just hang there for hours. I have tried a full clean reinstall and tried only installing one pice of software along with another reset and all result are the same. I'm at work right now but might post a video to show it in more detail and link it here when I get home.

which version of the 8.1 did you use?

is it the factory OS from the OEM DVD?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

instead of using ninite

how about installing the programs the old fashion way?

download the installer from the various places like firefox.com adobe.com etc

1 good advice.

3 i think all copies of windows should just come with a program like ninite... like... ninite.exe xD

just first time it boots up it detects all your hardware, downloads the lastest drivers for you and lets you browse through every program you'll need, from browsers to addons and plugins to steam. :)

When I was installing adobe reader on the second try and firfox on the third try I did not use ninite.

hmm that is strange

did you install all the hardware drivers esp the Chipset and SATA driver after the install of the OS?

The odd thing is both machines run great after doing the rest/reinstall (updates go threw, restart and shutdown np, browse the web with IE) its not till I install somthing is when all the problems start and not being able to install software is like not being able to put bread in a toster

Yep all the lastest drivers from asus website and nvidia for the gpu and they all install with zero problems On the third try I did not install any of them to see if it would make a differance

maybe a full spec of the PC will help

also each PC is running one OS key right?

it really strange for 2 different PC to show the same issue

when they hang do they throw a bluescreen error?

try the above to get the dump file and use the program on a working PC and see what is the cause of the crashes

do you have other HDD or SSD to try?

suggest swapping the SATA data and power cables for the desktop

laptop i guess only change the drive to another one
