Encrypting Windows 8.1

Hi there, I'd like to encrypt my windows 8.1 Pro, my first choice was BitLocker but I did read that it has a backdoor. So I reached for TrueCrypt but devs say it is not safe to use their software becouse something.

I got there -> https://truecrypt.ch/ but i don't know what to think about this, and also there is VeraCrypt based on TrueCrypt code. What should i choose? Maby there is something better than truecrypt?

Maybe he cares about his privacy, or if he loses his PC he won't have to worry about his world famous cookie recipe being leaked to the internet.

Don't think that BitLocker would have a backdoor. I'd definitely use that on 8.1 Pro.

Why i want to encrypt my notebook? Becouse i work as programmer and i use same machine in and after work.

Some board or laptop bios have a encrypt hdd option. Before turning that on, just beware this locks on a hardware level so if one day the system goes kaput and you take your drive to another computer to grab your files, you will not be able to do so. I think same goes with bitlocker.
