Hi my build consists of a MSI B85M Gaming edition motherboard that supports overclocking and I have the G3258 and wondered if anybody could help me and what a good clock speed I could achieve with the stock cooler and what setting should I change, e.g voltage ect...

Also if someone could please tell me what ring ratio is as well that would be great. Thanks  :D

This would be great to know because im currently waiting for the parts for a mini itx build and im going to have to use the stock cooler or go with all in one. considering i have limited my self to a 600 dollar limit and im already there.I have heard of people getting 4.5 to 4.8 with a water cooler. the 4.8 is from linus himself. Researching it i have seen that some people are pushing 4.2 with a hyper 212 evo. so i would think with the stock cooler 4.0 would be pushing it. But adam Redfern whats the cpu temp at stock at idle and under load?

I've got a G3258 build I'm getting ready to put together and I'm wondeing what a good starting point would be for overclocking on the stock heatsink, something stable that I could then walk up from.

My B85M is limited to a 1.2V max and I'm not trying to go crazy, but if I could get just north of 4ghz, I'd be real happy.

@tmcclelland455, I believe, said he hit 4.2 GHz at 1.1 V. I don't remember what cooler he used, but it wasn't the stock cooler.

Actually... It was.

Right now I'm running 4.6 at 1.26v on my 212 EVO. Not what I call a very good increase for the voltage.

Could anyone tell me what the ring ratio means? Thanks :D

ring ratio = cache ratio  .....sometimes boards inaccurately refer to the cache multiplier as "ring ratio", even though a multiplier is not a ratio...but you get the idea.
