So I like to do a bit of casual gaming with me and my friends but we always have to play publicly. I know you can make servers out of old rigs and raspberry psi but I always question there power. What would be the cheapest you could build a server for that could host a website or two aswell as holding MC/GMOD/TF2/CS:GO servers?

I do not know much about how servers full work so any details would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Google " *game name* server specs" write down all the different specs needed to host each server. then make an educated purchase depending on your needs. (running two or more servers at once and such) Also, ensure you have good, fast internet. otherwise you'd be better off renting.

THIS IS MY SUPER TEENY TINY SIGNATURE!

Ain't it just the cutest little signature.

Some would argue it is the cutest little signature ever.

Honestly I think you'll be better off just renting a server from the plethora of hosting options available on the internet.

Yeah, but what would be the cheapest possible way of doing one regardless of other options?

Nah man finding in us would be helpful so I could see what you used but I am in Britain where prices seem to be SO damn high (eg mic cost $100 should equal £60. Nooooope amazon thinks $100 is £170)

What if you got a junk computer for dirt cheap and just replaced the mobo and cpu?

For me a junk pc in my house is 10 years old. So old that the GPU runs on DDR2 and I am rocking a Intel core that's so old it doesn't show up anymore. Anywhere.

But I see what you mean, but once you pick up a junk pc and add a new mobo/CPU it's already costing £250-300 once you get a Xeon and a £60 mobo

Eh I guess, when I get paid though....

This would be pretty decent if you upgraded the CPU to the Xeon 1230 v3 and added 1 - 2 TB. Would a SSD be any good in a server?

Not really, only if you wanted fast boot times.

And you don't necessarily need a xeon.... They are just a little bit more reliable over long periods of time.

Hell you could run a decent minecaft server on a pentium g3258. as long as your not having like 50 people on the server you dont really need a xeon. it's just adding unneed cost

I guess but what would be your ideal £150-200 CPU then?
