Hello well this is my first time building a pc by myself and I seem to have managed to work out all the technical issues by installing and reinstalling everything over the course of two days but one thing that refuses to work is the power button. The reset switch also does not work until I have turned the pc on by using the motherboard button. However, once I have turned on the machine by using the motherboard button the reset button on the case works fine any advice. The leds also work once I have turned it on via the motherboard.

On your motherboard.Probably on the bottom of the motherboard there is a rectangular with some pins on it.Check your motherboards manual or read from the motherboard which 2 pins are the power on pins. Then use a flat(usually) screwdriver or something metal to short those two pins

EDIT-If you end up reading from the motherboard I think it says Pw or something like this.Which stands for power(I don't really remember though :P)

If you don't mind me asking how exactly do I do this????

Take some sort of metal object and touch it to both ends of the power button pins. If it doesn't do anything those contacts may be shot.

So when I do this the computer should be in the off state but the motherboard should have power running to it correct?

what should I be expecting to happen basically what should happen if it is working?

It basically acts as if you pressed your power button. mobo should attempt to post just as normal.

ok well the computer booted up like normal

Then it seems as if it might be a problem with the power button on the case or the wires may have a short. Try plugging it in one more time and try it out.

While you wait for them to contact you back, plug the reset button connector onto the spot where the power button connector would go. Then you can turn it on and use it as normal by pushing the reset button as the new power button. So hitting reset would turn it on as such.

Reads your motherboards instruction manual there will be a pin out for the front I/O, It will contain pins such as PLED + and - (Power LED) HDD (HardDrive Activity Light) There is a whole section for this. This needs to be right. Your PLED would be the cause of your issues. Most buttons function. No need to contact customer service, it is your first time building a pc. Take your time read instructions and trouble shoot, its the best part! I can guarantee its you, not the case, if you have a multimeter put black to black and Red to Red and test continuity.

Yes my motherboard came with a pin to plug in all the front port connectors and I have the PLED + and - in the right spots so confused on how that is the problem

Thank You this does work currently trying to see what steps I can take from here I plug the power button slot into the reset button area and nothing happens when I push the power button so I am convinced that the power button is just defective.
