Okay, so, i've had AMD for quite a while and im wondering... should i go with Intel? I know absolutely nothing about intel and what all the fancy numbers and letters mean. I'm asking this because i've scraped my old build and i'm making a new one. The motherboard i was thinking about going with is the "MSI ATX 2600 LGA 1150 Z97-GAMING 9 ACK" motherboard and the Intel i7-4970k. Thanks for your help guys!

First of all, what is the purpose of your computer?

I am assuming gaming, if thats so get the i5 4690k. No need for the i7.

If you also happen to record/render videos or do some graphical editing get the i7 , because the hyper threading will help you out.

In games , HT is meaningless.

Any experience I've had with an Intel CPU has always been a good one. They even have some pretty decent on-board graphics. I'd go for it, but just make sure you have a decent cooling mechanism, especially if you plan to overclock it.

But, if you aren't planning to do any serious gaming where you push your system to its limits and run separate programs in the background, I'd just get an i5. They're pretty good at what they do, and from what I understand shouldn't bottleneck too much. Hope this helps!

Sound like a good build. If u just wanna game. The i5 4690k is good enough. But the i7 come with hyperthreading which is good for multitasking and heavy work load. I have the 4790k and couldnt be happier with it. Also im not a fan boy so im not bias. Im just talking from experience

So other than the hyperthreading for video rednering and editing, the i7 is a waste of money if its a gaming rig?

Well not rly. The i7 will run faster out of the box and overclock better. Its up to u tho. If money isnt a concern for u then go with the i7 but the i5 will generally save u 50-100$

no, modern games released recently pretty much all make good use of hyperthreading so its good to have if you can afford for more future-proofing if you dont upgrade the cpu too often then its a good idea to get the i7.

what price difference are you looking at between the i5-4690k and i7-4790k?

its good to note that the i7-4790k is clocked 500mhz faster than the i5 out of the box as well...

i would say if the delta is 75$ or less get the i7...as long as it wont make you cheap out on the graphics card (gtx970 recommended if possible)
