Quitest HDD?

WD Red + Rubber grommets = Quietest HDD evaah

I have asked that question before. Only get Red in a NAS situation. Greens are for Desktop.

thats the most annoying part. i dealy i would like to get wd blue silent 2TB or something because green isnt reliable enough and red is too expensive :D most of the people say that green is for mass storage only. can you suggest something less expensive than red and silent enough?

 

what hdd do you use in witch case and is it noisy?

I went SSD only for a few months, but that didn't really work that well. Now I got a 1 TB Seagate, which I can't recommend. You can always get a cheap 500 GB SSD. I think it is worth to try a Blue, they are pretty good. If it is too loud you can always use it as a external drive or sell it.

can you please tell me more about your drive is it loud or is it slow what the symptoms? or its unreliable

I thought the Samsung spinpoint HDDs were the quietest, although I've never used them personally.

freeNAS server: AMD Athlon II 170u 20W, 5 x 3TB WD Red in raid-z1 (12 TB)

media centre: AMD A10-5700, crucial M4 (boot), running XBMC,4 x 3TB WD Red, 3 x 3TB WD green + 2TB green in FlexRAID (17 TB)
