First post here so don't troll me too hard..

I desperately need to upgrade pretty much everything in my current "rig" but school makes you broke. Anyways I want to know if I should upgrade my current graphics card (Radeon HD 5750) and if so what should I get. The most I would want to spend on a card would be $250. I only game and I would like to at 1080p on atleast high (ultra if possible). I'm also looking at getting a Haswell unlocked i5 and z87 sabertooth, but that isnt for this section :P.

isnt that like 280/280x level? Prices have dropped significantly so consider either of those. If not the 270/750ti are pretty good value right now ^

R9 270 2GB

GTX 750 Ti 2GB

Both are good.

Edit: I suggest you check your PSU and CPU to see if u meet the reqs, (no bottleneck & enough watts)

if you wanna spend a little bit more, GTX 760 or 770. here

What is that 770 capable of, if you don't mind me asking. Is say a 970 worth the extra $ compared to upgrading to a 770?

A GTX 970 would be the best IMO. you'd be good for a looooong time with this GPU. but unfortunately this break your budget by $150-200, Up to you to see. What's your PSU, CPU btw?

Is it worth the extra $ compared to a 770? Running a Corsair 650 watt power supply and I am looking to upgrade to a i5 4690k.. Still in the works. I'm trying to plan a new build as my current one is ancient.

Red: What you should look to buy

Pink: Not recommend

Blue: Avoid

I thought Zotac was a fine brand? I know it's not well-known or preferred like EVGA/Gigabyte/ASUS/MSI, but... they don't suck. PNY however I've heard things about.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Like what?

Like "nobody should ever buy a PNY card, but Zotac is indeed fine". Even here on this forum.

Why are people talking 770 and 750Ti in a thread where dude says he has $250 to spend on a GPU to match with an i5? The obvious answer here is the R9 290, which has 4GB VRAM and performs almost as well as a GTX 970. You can often find the best ones (Sapphire Tri-X and PowerCooler PCS+) for $250-$270 after rebate, and they murder a 770, much less a weak 750Ti. Don't buy 2GB cards in 2015. They're already a problem in 1080p and it'll only get worse.

OP went from spend $250 dollars to GTX 970. LOL! Sorry, it made me giggle. However, if I had $250 dollars to buy a video card without looking for some crazy good deal. I'd get a R9 280x. Yes, it's a 2013 card but it's basically a 7970 for under 300 dollars which was AMDs prior flagship. It's perfect for 1080p gaming. Personally, I ran a Radeon 7950 for like two years or so. I've only had 3 games that brought down my gpu to it's knees at 1080p. Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 both at max it stutters at like 25fps or so. If you want that performance then look at a R9 280.

If you can find a R9 290 for around $250 that's awesome. Honestly, it's hard to go wrong here. Just pick your price.

Wouldn't bother with the r9 270 since there's r9 280s for just as much.
