8.1 + Start is Back

I would upgrade to Windows 8.1, but since I plan on building a new system this year I see no point in doing it, it'd be kind of a waste of money. In your situation, though, Windows 8.1 would be your best option. It's not that Windows 7 sucks, in fact far from it, it's just that Windows 8.1 is noticeably faster overall.

I don't really miss the start button at all. Right clicking the windows logo has been good enough for me. After using windows 8.1 I don't really feel like I want to go back to 7.

+1 for windows 8.1

Well you are one of the rare people who actually don't mind the absence of the Start Menu, but most prefer to have it.

Generally yes, several benchmarks have proven Windows 8.1 to be faster.

To be honest a large portion of people actually prefer the "Metro" interface in comparison to the classic start menu. This is why Microsoft is merging them both with Windows 10. The start menu will return but also feature live tiles within it.

Windows 8.1 is faster especially on start if you have a SSD like me it's the best combination you can have and the shorcut "Start + Q" is amazing, the search option works pretty well and its faster than look for the app in the traditional taskbar as many people like to do.
