Hey guys, I hope you can help me

I decided to post another topic with another planned build. Here is the link for the parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/d8cnMp

My monitor right now is a pretty normal one. Maybe later I'll upgrade to a better one around the 1920x1080 resolution.

I won't be playing in 4K or with double-monitor setups and such.

Is this build any good? A friend recommended it for me but I'm always afraid and I always like to hear many opinions.

Feel free to criticize it and maybe include some points of improvement

Looks great, if you are at sub 1080p or going to 1080p then a 970 is all you need, a 980 is just wasting money

You could save a lot of money by switching to a GTX 970 especially if you never plan to play at resolutions higher than 1080p or more than 1 monitor. Also unless you intend to do content creation or heavy streaming you can step down to a i5-4690k instead of the i7 and save about $100 there as well.

The only problem I have with this is that the PSU might be a little high as far as wattage. PSUs run best somewhere between 60-75% of its max wattage. The 760W PSU will be running at around 48%. Unless your looking to go SLI in the near future id buy a cheaper one and save some money. Hope it helped!

If you look at his mobo it has SLI capabilities so he might be planning SLI as a possible future upgrade, which would explain the higher wattage on the psu.

I guess your right. But still if he's playing at 1080p then theres no need to go SLI. Its already a beast of a computer. Id say just save the money on the PSU...

Hey wow so many answers, thanks for the input. I'm gonna try to address everyone here.

@Rodneyg87 @ClubGaming_ @ilikemacandpc @ShadowCaptain

Yes I may plan on going for SLI later. The thing is right now the pc is the main focus and the monitor comes later.

My budget is around the 2000 €

I intend to play AAA games like Ryse: Son of Rome, Mgs 5, Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham Series, Total War games etc.. I think you guys get the point.

Because I do intend to do a big upgrade on the monitor later.

And if I game at 1080p with a 980 is it simply overkill? Or will it affect performance or any functioning part of gaming in any way?

Thanks for the answers guys, I'm here to learn. Any helpful links (if you have them) please share :D

this build is completly overkill. gtx 980 is not necessary for 1080p gaming and the i7 isnt necessary for gaming unless you will be doing some post production editing and id like to recommend the i5 4690k as an alternative CPU

You know sometimes we forget to appreciate how lucky we are to be alive...

If that is your budget, why not get a nice 1080p 144hz monitor or a 1440p monitor? a 980 is completely overkill for 1080p you will get like 300fps in most games haha especially if your monitor is LESS than 1080p

You could easily use an i5 and 970 or 280x and play everyting on ultra at 1080p

Honestly for your budget look to getting a 1440p monitor or something good

I would say step down to the gtx 970 and step your cpu down to the i5 then invest the rest into a really nice 27-32 inch 1080p 144hz monitor and call it a day

Thanks guys. I think I will do that. This will be my first PC bought with my own hard earned money xD

I'm being very careful and trying to learn the most I can

no worries, maybe just have a think through, I reckon you could get an i5 4690k, GTX 970 and a 1440p (or 1080p 144hz monitor) within budget

maybe even a better PC since you have the budget to spare

Here ya go i reworked your build to be less overkill and included a 144hz 27 inch monitor and kept it at the same price that your other build was. And to be honest you really dont need 16gb of ram for gaming so if you want to save another $60-70 you could step down your ram to 8 gigs instead.
