  1. That’s your choice to make but I’m going to be honest with how things are looking the slower boot seems to be the new norm since they are trying to squeeze the absolute most performance out of the newer hardware so imo if I have to put up with slower boot times for way more performance per dollar I’m all for it
  2. There is only one bios on msi's website for this board and its the one that came with the board The two m.2 slots im currently using are M2_1 and M2_3 the issue im having is when i populate M2_2 along with those other two slots
  3. So I have a ryzen 7 7700x and a msi B650 tomahawk the boot times are slower than my old x470 board and 3600x but not that bad after initial memory training happens. From power button to boot about 20ish seconds on a cold boot which honestly isn't that bad considering once your in the OS its snappier than ever on a ryzen platform
  4. I think I might have just answered my own question but I want to know if someone concurs with my thought process. By putting two gen 3x4 drives in my system I have populated 8 pcie lanes with those drives then the 16 lanes for my rtx 3080 so did I just run out of pcie lanes? And if so would it cause this problem? I forgot to mention in the initial post that I have all but 1 of the usb type A ports on the back of the board populated which even though the platform has 28 total lanes I think I did run out of lanes then because the extra 4 are for the chipset which my usb devies are using.
  5. Honestly what I would do is look at facebook marketplace in your area and see if there are any deals on whole platforms for sale from someone who just upgraded to 13th gen or am5 from an older platform. Take for instance I just upgraded to a 7700x and got the new AM5 platform and have my old ryzen 5 3600x and x470 mobo and ram for sale on there for about $300, no im not trying to sell you mine I am just making a point that's what you can find with some looking.
  6. So I have had my new AM5 platform for about 2 weeks well tonight I felt froggy so I went to best buy and got me a 3rd nvme drive for my board to populate all slots. I know according to the spec sheet 2 are cpu and 1 is chipset well this was just going to be another mass storage nvme drive so I put it in the slot that doesn't have a heatsink well anytime my system tries to access a drive for any kind of download doesn't mater what drive it is the screen goes black so I pulled that 3rd drive out issue stopped so I figured it was a bad drive. I took the drive back to best buy swapped it for another same issue but this time I put the drive into the slot that has the heatsink and took that other drive out worked fine. So my question is do I have a bad board or is there a flaw in how these were designed? I ask because up till today I had a 3rd drive using it inside of an enclosure plugged into a usb slot on the back of the board since it was a sata B+M key m.2 and what I did today was to get rid of that drive and have everything inside the pc. Specs below Ryzen 7 7700x Msi B650 tomahawk 2x16 gskill flare x5 5600mhz cas 36 Evga FTW3 RTX 3080 haven't had any issues with this board up till now and with my testing I know its not the drive. I have this same question posted on MSI's forum but figured id post here since I might get an answer faster
  7. 2 years ago when i got my 3080 as it turned out my system would draw more power than a 750w psu could handle so i would keep tripping over current protection and during that time 1000-1200 watt psu's were so ungodly expensive it made more sense to go dual psu. I managed to snag another G2 750w for $74.99 brand new so i just put the 2nd one in my o11 dynamic and its worked just fine ever since. No I have not set it back to single psu since all this started since I kinda draw over 800 watts with this system the way it is. No my gpu did not ramp to 100 percent like it does if I dont turn the switch off fast enough after shutdown. The system kept operating just fine without issue but when I would hard reset the system the D drive which is my sx8200 pro nvme drive would not be detected and this behavior happens everytime I would try to access that drive. Today I received a pcie adaptor card so I plugged it in and the drive still wont detect so I think I have a bad drive but the screwed up thing is I was re-downloading a couple games in the last hour and as soon as I finished the download on apex legends my system did the blank screen thing again while the system in the background was still running just fine. So I hope I don't have a second drive dying on me, now this last drive is a WD blue sata 6 m.2 that I have had in my system since late 2018
  8. Haven’t touched my pc all week due to working, I get off tonight I boot up and within minutes the pc turns off and boots back up but not detecting the nvme drive once again
  9. So I can confirm it still downloaded the file without issue after the screen went black again. I let it be for about 20 minutes and when I rebooted the system video came back up without issue and the game was fully downloaded, so that rules out failing nvme drive. It also has no issues gaming gpu ramps up without issues so idk what it could be,
  10. So here’s the thing I started downloading lost ark tonight on steam about 7-8gb into the download I lost video but my computer still sounds like it’s downloading the file. The first time this happened I killed the power to my pc and rebooted when it came up my secondary drive which is an adata sx8200 pro wasn’t being detected, so the first thing I though dam is my drive dying so I took the drive out re-seated it and booted back up no issues till I started downloading the file again same result. I downloaded the adata ssd toolbox thinking it might show me a dead drive and it didn’t so now I’m not sure what’s going on anyone have any ideas? System specs below. ryzen 5 3600x locked at 4.4ghz all core 16gb trident z 3600 cl16 X470 crosshair 7 hero Wi-Fi mobo evga rtx 3080 ftw3 2x 750watt evga g2 power supplies all temps are fine cpu up till screen turned off was at 33c gpu wasn’t being used but either way sitting at 30c
  11. With the 3000 series launch we know there will be very limited quantities at first so it has me wanting to try and be online waiting for them to go live but I do not know what time Newegg goes live with new parts. So does anyone know what time that would be? I know it'll be on the 17th but is that at midnight, 7am, or what?
  12. unfortunately been there done that still wont populate
  13. has anyone had the issue of it just flat out not giving you the option to turn on gsync/freesync on a freesync monitor after the update?? I have a pixio px347c which is a 3440x1440 100hz freesync panel and when paired with my 1080 ti it will not give me the option to turn on gsync and nvidia can't tell me why.
  14. honestly I have an asus crosshair hero 7 which is a $270 board that's what I would pick personally but being on a budget I would say yes the tomahawk is a strong board and unless there are features specific to the x470 chipset you need which I doubt being you are currently operating on a fx series processor I would say save the money and go B450 since it still allows for overclocking.
