Are these GPU Blocks the same!?

Go to solution Solved by Altecice,

go for the full block from pccasegear. That other block wont cool the VRM's

Hey all,

Quick question:

Are the following two GPU water blocks the same water block? What I mean by that is are they the same product since they seem to have the same product number (I dont mind if ones nickle and another acetal).

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21661/ex-blc-1563/EK_EVGA_780_Classified_and_780_Ti_Classified_VGA_Liquid_Cooling_Block_-_Nickel_EK-FC780_GTX_Classy_-_Nickel.html?id=dovVQVmz&mv_pc=3562#blank

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27755&cPath=880

I have a EVGA 780Ti Kingpin Edition which I want to water cool and I want to make sure the water block works well with it. The one off frozen cpu mentions my GPU specifically as a compatiable card while the other does not (I dont think).

The reason this matters is that stuff off frozen cpu will have to be shipped to me from America and as a result will cost alot.

Thanks

Awesome, So the one form pcccase gear will fit and cool my Kingping to a high standard?

No, it won't even fit. The one from pccasegear won't fit your card, because it's made for a reference card and not the Kingpin version.

Just check http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/  for compatible EK waterblocks.

The crucial differences between these two blocks are that :

a)The first one is made of nickel while the second one is made out of copper (you should'nt mix the two metals in your loop, because it'll cause corrosion, thus decreasing your cooling capabilities)

and

b)The second one isn't compatible with the PCB-design of your gpu (because the PCB is custom made by EVGA, and has a different layout than the refference design)

I checked the EK cooling configurator, and for full cover blocks you only have the choice between the Nickel or the Acetal+Nickel version for your videocard :

EK-FC780 GTX Classy - Acetal+Nickel [3831109868492] and EK-FC780 GTX Classy - Nickel [3831109868607]

The first one is the only one of those two that will even work with your card.

Those in here not knowing for sure what the blocks are should not really respond. That block is a full cover block no matter what you think.

Dam thats annoying, the only place I can find these compatible GPU blocks are from America. Thats a shame. Thanks for clearing that up guys, I wouldn't have been happy if I bought it and found out it didn't fit. Which one is better, does the material really make a difference?I thought nickel was only a thin plating and didnt't affect cooling capibilities?

No. It's just nickel plated copper. Also nickel, brass and copper are fine in a loop. Just avoid aluminium.

Both are nickel plated. The only difference is in the top aesthetics.

VSG is totally right here!  :)
