DVI vs DisplayPort?

Go to solution Solved by WinNut,

So unless you run G-Sync or 4K theres no added benefit?

Correct. The only benefit you get without GSync or 4K is a smaller connector.

Is there any difference from using DVI or DisplayPort? I know Displayport has more bandwidth and can handle 4K@60Hz but is there anything else I should know about or are they basically the same.

DP is already better, because you don't have that fat connector that almost falls out if you don't screw it in... :P

Yea connectors with screw terminals are stupid HDMI never falls out so why does DVI need screws.

They're pretty much the same, as both carry a digital connection.

So unless you run G-Sync or 4K theres no added benefit?

Display port also carries an audio signal whilst dvi only carries video.

DisplayPort has better capabilities, but there's only a practical difference if you're running a display that demands that extra bandwidth. Like 4K @ 60 Hz or (I think) 1440p @ > 60 Hz, or if you need Gsync. For most mainstream displays, DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort will all work basically identically.
