I am currently working on a putting together a build (first since 2009...) for about 75% gaming, 10% photoshop, and 15% wife time watching youtube or looking at pinterest...

Games played include:

Battlefield

Arma (Dayz)

Skyrim

War Thunder

nothing too intensive, but would still like to have the power to max out anything

Budget is ~ $2000, but will need to include one monitor (24" 120hz, will add 2 more in the future, was looking at the 144hz Asus??) and a mechanical keyboard (have a headset and mouse)

The list I have made is in MicroATX, not entirely necessary, but I like smaller form factors.  No real reason for running a Radeon in it, either GPU would be fine.  I am 100% into aesthetics though, so color matching and neatness is a must.

The List:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K

CPU Cooler: Corsair H110

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VI GENE

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133

Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM

Video Card: Asus Radeon MATRIX HD 7970

Case: Corsair 350D Window MicroATX

Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition x3

Power Supply: Corsair 760W 80 PLUS Platinum

Hi @No Quarter,

Overall, looks like a strong build. I'd recommend Nvidia over AMD simply because although AMD keeps up with FPS (when considering price), their frame latency is much worse, and that means you will notice jitter/choppiness more often with their cards. Quality>Quantity, basically.

Day Z standalone will be here soon (I hope), so ... yeah. Just a thought on that.

I would recommend lowering  your RAM to 1600 speed as the 2133 won't make any difference for you from what I know. Usually higher speed RAM only makes a difference for rendering (video, 3D models, etc). And I would go with 2x8GB RAM because ... well, extra RAM can't hurt. You can turn half of that (8GB) into a RAMDisk having an uber fast SSD, basically, without the SSD price. Though it'd be small and not for storage.

Just my thoughts.

Vitalius is right, the GTX 770 beats the 7970 GHz with a 10fps scale in BF3, GTX 770 overclock just like the 7970 ghz.In other games it scale the same, but with a GeForce you have PhysX,

And is $50 USD cheaper than the HD 7970 GHZ.

So for conclusion, GTX 770 kick the HD 7970 GHz in the butt, the only thing is better of that AMD card is the 3GB but if your not going with Monitor Surround configuration, better go with GTX 770.

I love AMD graphics cards but, that GTX 770 is awesome.

And the RAM go for 2x 8GB 1600 MHz.

as far as 770s go, which would be the best for a 3x 24" monitor final setup?

maybe this?

A 2 GB card can't handle 3 monitors, You'll want a 3-4 GB card for that.

Stuff I have I like: Moto G - Superlux HD681 Evo - Monoprice 9927

90% of what I say is sarcasm.

I said about that, a 3GB for Surround configuration, is better, but I've looked at some benchmarks, and saw that the GTX 770 scale well.

(I didn't put Crysis 3 cause no graphics card can run descent that game at surround).

So in conclusion, the HD 7970 GHz perform almost the same with 3 monitors, and even in some games the GTX 770 scaled better, and still $50 dollars cheaper. And tome spend $50 dollars to have about 3% better performance doesn't worth the money.

Benefits of buying each card:

Radeon HD 7970 GHz - Never Settle Bundle (Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider).

GTX 770 - PhysX, CUDA, 3D Vision, and Metro: Last Light.

You could fit a 780 in with that budget. Just a few changes I recommend: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/18EuS
