Do I Need AA?

Ok so I'm pretty new to PC gaming and I see alot of options for AA . . FXAA MSAA? . . . Do I need AA? Which one does what, can I turn it off ? . . HALP?

 

I do know what AA does, but I'd like to understand abit more.

lol there relly isnt anything special about AA, i dont even use it TBH and some games just force it on you

if you cant, just use fxaa, dosnt really effect performance that much compared to msaa

i always turn AA up until i reach a certain point of fps. If i get under like 50fps, i turn AA a step down.

I was under the impression that it increased lag slightly due to the extra time needed to produce a jaggy free image. I say put impression in bold because it could be one of those PC myths either. I definitely never heard of it decreasing lag.

In multiplayer FPS games I tend to leave AA off or use FXAA where available, most other types add additional input latency

For me unless it really eats away at my FPS I max everything out.

I never use AA, I like a higher framerate, and I don't like input lag.

Try turning AA on and off see if you notice or if it affects your experience negatively, If it affects your experience negatively or you don't notice it then really there's no point in having it on.

I use 2x on pretty much everything, its enough to look good and not take to much performance, older/less intensive games I go up to 4x or even 8x

in some games you cant turn off AA. i perfer AA+FXAA like how it softens the edges

I only use AA on games i can get at least 60 fps with it on and at 1080P i find it hard to really see all of the jaged lines unless i go out of my way to look for them

I'll set everything to maximum and if the FPS isn't high enough, I'll turn down the shadows/lighting first. I demand smooth models.

actually I just fired dishonoured up and it looks alot better with FXAA . . . I will use FXAA when available otherwise x2 or whatever the option is similar to that?

FXAA helps a ton, i really didnt notice before but much it helps but after playing tomb  raider for a while i have seen "the light".
