Hey I would love to have a XEON and played around with the thoughts of buying one... The only con is that a XEON isn't unlocked.. I know you can turn up the BCLK a little bit.. but no one would consider that a real overclock... so is there ANY possible way of unlocking the multiplier of a xeon? There has to be one single way :( ...

Thanks for your help

Pretty sure there isn't ^^ locked comsumer cpus usually still allow a bit of headroom with the multipliers, but not xeons.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Easy.

Buy an unlocked i7

Disable IGPU

Viola, unlocked Xeon!

It's not the same. Xeons have support for ecc memory and other features that i7's don't.

There are also xeons with iGPU's.

Xeons are simply locked that way, you shouldn't even consider buying one unless you want a server, a proper server. Not some gaming bench you are planning on OC:ing.

Get an i7, or an i5 if the first option costs too much.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Not that I know about.

But with a board that supports changing the multi, you can set all cores to the max. turbo frequency. E.g. you can use a E3-1230 v3 with 3,7GHz.

As long as the Microcode isn't 0x9

Well dear sir.. if you would have watched Linus' video about the xeons ... you would known that they have exactly the same power as an i7 (in gaming)... and a E3 1231 v3 would be like 70 bucks less than an i7.. just saying... and yeah the xeon is also good for video rendering.. Like yeah this 12core beast of a xeon won't be as good in gaming as an i7 but 4 core xeons are (mostly)
