USB BIOS FLASHBACK PROBLEM

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

I know this however my revision is 1405 people are saying I need to update for it to be compatible with the i5 4th gen. I'm just struggling to understand how the flashback thing works

There are different ways it can be done. Personally, I prefer to do it directly through the motherboard. Grab the BIOS revision from ASUS website(I would grab the latest one. It contains everything from the previous revisions). Put it on a flash drive in the root file system. After doing that, shut down the system and hold down the Flashback button. It should start flashing - it'll continue flashing until it's finished(if I remember correctly. Reference your manual in case I'm wrong).

My motherboard Sabertooth z87 bios don't support the 4th gen processors.. I can't get past post with my new computer so I have to use the utility usb bios flashback there is a file on the ASUS website for the new bios however I'm not too sure how to format it correctly onto the USB ready to be used. The ASUS website dosnt make IT clear

Please help

The file is: BIOS updates for New 4th gen Intel core processors (version: 2.00.02)

Z87 supports Haswell. It uses socket 1150 and that's what Haswell uses. It wouldn't make sense if it didn't support Haswell out of the box. In fact, the motherboard would be put in an unusable state.

If this was the situation why would ASUS supply a bios updated for this problem?

And to be honest it is unusable

If you look at the BIOS revisions, you can see they've made MANY revisions. They're simply improving support for the Haswell CPUs. Haswell is the ONLY supported CPU architecture on the board because it uses LGA1150. Version 1707 is where they start their Haswell CPU BIOS revisions. I'm not saying you shouldn't update your BIOS to the latest version. I'm just saying Haswell MUST be supported out of the box(unless it's an early sample) because no other CPU architecture works on it.

You have to get another CPU (like the i5 4440), install that, update the BIOS, and then you can use the 4th gen intel CPU like normal.

Gigabyte boards have this issue too, and i don't understand why this isnt fixed out of the box by now.

Go to a tech shop and see if you can use the bench for an hour so you can fix this.

EDIT: Your motherboard has a BIOS flashback button on it,.
Get the latest BIOS from the website, put it in the root of an empty flash drive, plug that into the machine and press the BIOS flashback button on the motherboard.

The BIOS flashback button is the two arrows that look like a refresh key on the rear I/O.

EDIT TWO: Also make sure you plug it in to a USB 2.0 port (one of the black ones, on the top end of your I/O. There are 4 of them.).

Refresh aren't supported without a BIOS update...

OP, I think you just plop the file on a fat32 drive.
