Hi,

So after today's tradgedy of my system turning off while playing CS:GO and resetting all my OC settings, am I doing it right? I'm using XTU BTW.

1. Bumping up the core voltage to 1.3V and stress testing for 30 minutes

2. Bumping up the 2 active cores to 4.0GHz and stress test for 30 mins

3. Bumping it up to 4.3GHz and ditto

4. Bumping it up slightly more and ditto.

EDIT: 5. Bumping down the voltages by 0.01V and ditto

Not sure if I need to do the XTU stress test anyways, while gaming it's always at 95-100% load.

What cpu are you using?

Why does everything you say end with 200px-132Ditto_Ranger3.png

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

So I don't have to keep on saying "And stress test for 30 minutes"

Good point. but i would test for longer than 30 minutes and ditto...

Pentium G3258

1. Higher voltage doesn't necessarily mean better oc. Higher voltage --> more heat which can lower stability. Start at 1.2v first and add more incrementally.

2. Just go as high as you can with 1.2v and bump up the voltage by 0.01-0.02v. Mark down your results and you should see a curve of diminishing returns.

3. From the curve, you can find out where your most comfortable oc is.

What about 30 mins OCCT?

It's not about the software you use but the time. 30 minutes is reaaallly short.

I'm doing 1 hour now. Technically, is nearly always runs at 100% while gaming anyway, so it's run for 3-5hours on the last OC

Even 1 hour is short. Most people recommend at least 8 hours, some even 12 or 24.

And games will never stress a CPU as much as these artificial benchmarks.

I dint have time for 8 hours. I just put it at 4.6GHz at 1.28. If it fails, I'll bump up the voltage.

Well you asked if you're doing it right... answer is "no" in that case.

Well in the thread title you asked if you were overclocking right. :P

Part of overclocking is the stress testing. 8 hours might seem long, but then at least try to stress test it for multiple hours, say 4-5 hours. If it fails you'll know you need to adjust your settings. And throwing more Vcore at the problem won't solve everything, sometimes having a too high Vcore can have an adverse effect.

Stressing for 30 minutes or even an hour isn't long at all and won't tell you if your system is stable or not.
