Hello, after lots of searching for the right monitor I "think" I am close to making my final decision. I am still torn between IPS and TN displays, I don't play a lot of competitive games, (and when I do it's only casually.) I mostly play RPGs, RTSs and WoW, so i don't really need a 120/144hz display so a better looking Ips display would probably suit me but i am put off by the lower response times - How bad is it on an Ips display? Is 1ms - 6ms a big difference? As i said above, i don't need lightning fast response times just as long as there isn't bad ghosting/obvious slowdown. When it comes to TN monitors I want to know if there is a problem with running a game on a 144hz monitor at a lower fps, obviously i will be able to max out WoW at 100+ fps but i won't get much higher than 60 for upcoming games like The Witcher 3. Also, is there any way to prevent screen tearing when running games like Skyrim on a 60hz monitor at 100+ fps without using V-Sync?

At the moment, I'm using a crappy 22" Tv so realistically anything is an upgrade!
My budget is £200 ($310) (€255) I can stretch to £250 ($390) (€320) if the monitor justifies the price increase.

I need:

1080p - I can't really go any higher with a GTX 770

24-27 Inch monitor - I sit fairly close to my screen so 27 inch might be slightly too much,

Good picture and colour quality - So i can get my Skyrim+200 mods looking amazing!

Good response time - As long as there are no obvious visual stutters/ghosting

The monitors that i have chosen so far or  have been recommended to me:

AOC G2460PQU - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/aoc-monitor-g2460pqu
BenQ XL2411Z - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-xl2411z
Asus PB Series PB238Q  - http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236292&cm_re=Asus_PB-_-24-236-292-_-Product

If anyone can answer any of these questions and/or give some input on specific monitors i will be very grateful!
Thanks in advance!

The response time spec for the most part is bull due to the lack of regulation on how it's measured. Unless it's come from a reputable in-depth benchmark/review, ignore it.

Most modern displays have decent response times are decent anyway and you generally don't have to worry about it.

IPS displays are generally slower than TN but it's not enough lag that the average person would be able to notice. 1-6ms is not a big difference at all.

Other than v-sync, there's g-sync and freesync that can help prevent tearing.

I'd recommend going with the PB238Q for the better colors and viewing angles.

I was using a TN panel monitor for 3 years and after I decided to buy a IPS monitor I saw a HUGE difference in display quality. I play CS:GO, RPGs and Mobas (dota 2). If you ask me I would go for an IPS just because of the better colors because I really can't tell the difference between 1ms (TN monitor) and 6ms (IPS monitor).

Edit: Asus all the way for me :D

Thanks for the reply, if you cap your fps at 60 will it prevent tearing? I know most games don't have a "fps limit" option but this could be handy for those that do.

V-sync doesn't only limit framerate but synchronizes the graphics card output to the refresh rate of the display which helps prevent tearing.

But doesn't it increase stutter if the fps drops below 60?

It can and that's what adaptive v-sync is for.

You could go for a G-sync monitor. Since you have GTX 770

Can you recommend any other monitors that would fill my budget? The PB238Q is £144, I have a budget of £200-250 so I'm sure there are better quality monitors i could get if i spent a little more, or would the higher price not be justified in the quality of monitors in that price range?

The PB238Q is great and the displays worth looking at if you decide to spend more would be around £300+ for 1440p displays.

I keep seeing that monitor recommended in loads of threads is it really that amazing? It's got a fair few negative reviews on newegg.

It's a good Monitor but I wouldn't say amazing. Read the reviews. The negative responses are of defects that happen with just about any display and aren't inherent or common to only the PB238Q.
